General Information - Wireless Network Access

WiFi is now available at the Cuyamaca Hotspots, the Grossmont Hotspots, and the District Hotspots for registered students, faculty, and staff.

In the paragraph above, you will find links that will take you to pages that show maps of all the current locations of each of the wireless hotspots. The exact area of coverage is variable due to signal strength, RF (radio frequency) interference, the type of obstruction between your antenna and the access point, and a number of other variables.

Important information regarding the use of hotspots:

  • Hotspots provide access to web surfing only. Printing cannot be directed to on-campus printers.

  • Hours of availability are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

  • Your computer must be equipped with an 802.11g or b compatible wireless NIC.

  • You will be asked to log in using your network user name and password.

  • For students, this is the information you use to log in to computers in the various labs and computer facilities at the colleges. You can check this information on WebConnect. These accounts are created at the beginning of each term for registered students.

  • For faculty and staff, it is your usual network log in user name.

  • Use of the wireless hotspots is subject to and included under the provisions of the District Acceptable Use Policy.

  • Please be aware that viruses, worms, etc. that interfere with the function of your computer can be sent over the internet. the wireless hotspots do not provide protection against email spam or viruses. How to solve the IE7 not working on GCCCD Wireless Network Problems

The Cause of the Problem:

  • The new version of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) defaults to supporting only SSL version 3.0

  • Our wireless network currently only supports SSL version 2.0.

The Fix:

  • Open Internet Explorer 7, if you do not have a menu bar, right click on a blank space towards the top of internet explorer and click the label "menu bar".

  • Click Tools --> Internet Options --> and then click on "advanced" tab.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the advanced screen and find the box labeled "Use SSL 2.0" and check that box and the click "OK".

  • Close your browser and open it up again, you will be prompted with a new creen saying that there is a certificate error, just disregard this page and click "Continue to this website".

  • At this point the wireless should work correctly.
