A
physical science course which examines major
aspects of the marine environment. Topics include the
origin of the oceans, plate tectonics, seafloor
features,
seawater properties, ocean climate, currents, waves,
tides, coastal landforms, marine ecology, pollution and
resources. The history and development of
oceanography and the present and future importance
of the oceans are also discussed. Not open to students
with credit in SCI 112.

This physical science course studies
the patterns and processes that define Earth's major
physical systems, the basic
energy and material flows by which these systems
operate, and the comparative place of our
planet within the larger solar system. Topics
will be investigated at global, regional and local
scales and will provide a
general synthesis of the disciplines of astronomy,
geology, physical geography, meteorology
and oceanography. Environmental disturbance and
climate change will be addressed within the context of
the topics described above.

Physical geography
is the study of the physical processes operating at, or
near, the earth's surface. The laboratory
[Geography - 121] component of this discipline will
consist of exercises related to the lecture [Geography
-120] topics of the course. Exercises will pertain
to global, regional and local aspects of physical
geography, including earth - sun relationships,
atmospheric studies, weather and climate, earth dynamics
and biogeography applications. Field trips will
be used to allow students to apply knowledge gained.
AA/AS GE, CSU, CSU GE, IGETC, UC
Required materials will be discussed in class.
