Cuyamaca CalWORKs: What is CalWORKs?

California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids Act

CalWORKs is California's response to welfare reform, replacing GAIN and AFDC. It imposes new time limits for receiving cash aid.
CalWORKs requires that participants sign a welfare-to-work (W2W) plan that is approved by the County of San Diego.
CalWORKs required participation is a combination of approved school/work activities in exchange for cash assistance. Education and training are allowable activities.
The Chancellor's office-CalWORKs program provides funding for community colleges to deliver services to students who are Self-Initiated Program participants (SIPs) or Vocational Training Referrals (VTRs).
