What is Library Research Link

The Cuyamaca College Library offers child development students this in-depth website, called Library Research Links, which is a set of webpages designed to enable students to complete independent research assignments specific to course assignments. 

The Library Research Links aims to infuse information competency across the curriculum.  Information competency is defined as skills necessary for accessing, analyzing and using information. In order to help students achieve this goal, the Cuyamaca College Library provides students with varied opportunities for learning how to use the library effectively

Who can use this website?

Since the field of Child Development studies focuses on very young children, students will learn

In private or public centers, the employment opportunities are diverse and numerous, and include:

Students enrolled in CD courses in the Grossmont District
Teachers, teaching aides, assistants and parent volunteers.
Students pursuing the A.S. Degree (60 units), the E.C.S. Certificate (44 units), or the Child Development Permit (40 units plus experience hours)
Site Supervisor or Program Directors

The study of human development allows you to see learning take place; young children are acquiring knowledge in everything they do.
The increasing demand for teachers of young children due to population growth and changes in California's educational system.

What is information competency ?

Courses shall motivate students to develop information competency skills to improve the quality of education and everyday life through the selective use of information technology and information resources. Students will be able to identify information resources, apply appropriate tools to acquire information, formulate a search strategy, evaluate acquired information, and recognize alternative information sources.

Examples of information competency skills:

 increase knowledge of child development issues and research
 increase knowledge of career opportunities
 identify computer and related technology resources for facilitating lifelong learning
 demonstrate knowledge of uses of computers and technology in business, industry and society

 Students should be able to evaluate and debate issues and concerns surrounding effective use of information on Child Development issues
 Students should demonstrate skills in the appropriate use of information technology and information tools.
 Students should use computer-based technolgies to access information.
