Comments from Previous Students
What I liked about the class:
I loved the e-textbook. I would give it a 100% I think it’s great how you had questions after each page or a couple of pages. I do better with that kind of reading and answering questions then I do with reading a bunch of pages and then answering questions.
I enjoyed many aspects of your class. The discussions were current and relevant, and many of the students were very involved. I appreciate how you were involved in the discussion board. Many teachers post the subject, but they don’t get involved in the discussions. I also think the workload was appropriate for the class.
The class was helpful in confirming a major in Business Administration. I loved the Do What You Are assessment. This convinced me that I am in the right major, and in the right job.
I really liked the online textbook for this class. It was well written and easy to use, and interactive! It had a lot of great advice that I will reference in the future.
What I liked about this class is the fact that it was online, and that I could take my time throughout the week to think about an assignment or think about an answer to a discussion question and pick up the laptop anytime of day or night and complete my assignment.
I liked the fact that I had the entire week to finish my assignments, and that all of the assignments were available to me from the very first day, so if I ever had some free time I could work ahead if I wanted to. In terms of the course work, I enjoyed finding out different aspects of my personality; it was very helpful in terms of deciding which career path to follow.
This class was very helpful and beneficial in terms of learning about myself and it really did open me up to other career opportunities and pointed me in the right direction for what I want to do with my future.
This is a very meaningful class. It really helps you look at what you want to do with your life and makes you sit down and think about the future.
I think this is a great class for anybody that wants to make an improvement in their own personal journey of life.
I think I learned a lot of new study techniques that I can practice that don’t make me feel overwhelmed and it was basically a breath of fresh air to help motivate me to continue and be successful.
I really enjoyed the personality tests. I felt that they were helpful and informative. I also liked researching different careers; especially finding out the details about the career I am looking into.
It was extremely helpful learning about who I am. By doing the numerous tests and research assignments, I was able to confirm that I was pursuing the right major.
Through learning about myself (my strengths and my weaknesses), I now see myself in a new way. I am more secure about who I am and what I am capable of doing.
I liked that the material that we covered was helpful for all aspects of my life, not just my education. I learned many things that will help me to live a healthier, happier life. I also feel better equipped to build meaningful relationships. This has been a very positive class for me.
This class made me realize so much about my character and to help define myself better. Before this class all I could say about myself is that I was outgoing, smart, friendly, and creative. After this course I could add a hundred words to that list. I know my flaws, my strengths, how to better manage my life, and what to do with my future. I can now say that I am confident in the direction I will take in my future and the decisions on what types of jobs to pursue. I have decided with the help of this class to stick with a nursing major.
I have definitely learned a lot about my learning style and what type of student I am. This course has helped me, and I've noticed, to adopt new ways to study and manage time. I feel more successful already and I have improved my confidence to finish school and achieve my goal.
I know I have already mentioned that this class has, if anything, improved my confidence in so many ways. I feel like I can understand my personal likes and things that will benefit my future. I am confident in choosing the right major, the perfect job and in maintaining a happy relationship with those I love. I'm confident in choosing the right classes, in reaching an educational goal, and making mistakes along the way but continuing on anyhow.
I liked the slow and steady pace of this class. There were not that many assignments due all at once, so it was easy to get them done. I like working at my own pace, so I did a little homework each and every day and I got it done on time. This class was useful to me because it was able to teach me how to multi task and understand how to use webct better, as well as teaching me all the interesting subjects it involved.
This class helped me build my self confidence. I learned about what things that I could do when I am stressed or when I need space to study. I learned how I can help maintain a good health by exercising, drinking a lot of tea, and eating fruits and vegetables everyday. I set goals and follow through with them, never thinking to myself that I can’t do it because this class has taught me that if I put my mind to it then I can do anything that I wanted to.
I loved the positive thinking and motivational exercises in this class. I already practice this philosophy and it was great having it reinforced. It was awesome!
Going through the testing was very eye opening for me. I have always had a difficult time deciding what I “really” wanted to do when I grew up. The testing revealed that as well because my interests are very specific so I have to find something that fits so I can be as happy in my work and college career as possible.
I now feel confident in the rest of my classes for college because I am adapting to a new way of learning and time and money management. I never had that before. I had no idea there was so much I did not know about my personality and learning style. I can now be certain my major fits in with all that I've learned about myself.
Suggestions for future students on how to be successful and not drop this class:
Stick with it, you will learn a lot that you can apply to life and its fun!
At first an online class may be confusion and overwhelming, but once you get past the first two weeks it is much smoother. The teachers are also very understanding in the first few weeks and so that allows for mistakes and acclimation. I enjoy online classes because it is most fun to have discussions with other students when we are more free to express how we feel through our postings.
In the beginning, you told us there was a high dropout rate, and encouraged us not to be one of them. I thought about that often during the semester, and didn’t want to become a statistic.
I think what works best for online classes are keeping a scheduled time in your week to do the work. This way you are less likely to fall behind. For this class in particular, it worked well to first do the e-text and immediately finish the quiz and discussion.
I would suggest to new students that they should take this class as seriously as any other class. Just because it is virtual doesn’t mean that it is easier.
It's not very hard to be successful in this class. First you must pay attention to all the bulletins on the homepage. This tells you everything you need to know about your weekly assignments. Second, you must not wait until the last minute to do online classes. This only makes it more stressful and you are risking your papers being late due to this being an internet class and you may experience technical difficulties. Lastly, pay attention and be involved in the discussions. These will help you understand what you are learning better.
There should be no reason any student drop out of this class. It’s an easy and convenient way of learning. It takes away a lot of the regular class stresses. My advice would be not to wait until the last minute. Choose a time, one day out of the week that works best for you and each week spend an hour, two at the most, to complete a chapter. It's very simple and if you choose a Monday or Tuesday to get it out of the way, you have the whole week to not stress about it.
Some suggestions that I would give students who will be taking this class next semester is do all of the homework, check what assignments might be due so that they know ahead of time, and write a thoughtful meaning discussion and reply to other students discussions to understand where their coming from and their point of view. I would also tell students to learn what they are reading and apply it to their everyday life because this class and the chapters have meaning and they should put themselves in the same situations to better themselves with motivation and setting goals that they can accomplish.
I would tell them to think positively about being successful in the class and visualize themselves learning and growing in the process. I would tell them to be open minded to learning new skillsand in the process learning about themselves. I would tell them to take all the activities seriously and use the tools available to help them be successful.
If you stay a week ahead and the discussion comments weekly you’ll have no problem. Never ever take a college course lightly, especially online courses. They can come back and bite you in the butt!
I think that the reason that so many people drop out of online classes is because they think that it will be an easy way to get credits, so in order to be successful I think you should let people know that there is a fair amount of work involved with the class and that it is certainly not an easy A. You should tell people that they need to set aside at least two hours every week (before Sunday) to get the work done and to not put it off until the last minute. (Note: Summer goes twice as fast, so will need double this recommended time)
About the professor:
You were amazing! I couldn't have been successful in this class if it weren't for you. I liked how you always responded to emails right away. I really enjoyed this class. You are a wonderful teacher. Nothing should be improved, because the outline of the class is really well put together.
Marsha Fralick, I rate you OUTSTANDING also because I feel that you were great and helped me learn a lot from this class. When I needed help or had questions on something, you were always there to help me. I think that it is great that you take time to reply to our discussions and give your students great advice. I don’t think that this class needs any improvement because it is wonderful and it helped me learn a lot and I honestly didn’t think that I would learn this much or be as motivated as I am now after taking this class, but I am happy that I am because the motivation and the confidence that I have now is mainly from this class and what you have taught me. I am glad that I had the opportunity to take this class with you and I hope to talk or see you in the future. Take care and best wishes to you.
I would rate you as Outstanding as well. Even though I don't really know you I feel that I do know who you are through your curriculum. You are a positive, warm, active, intelligent person who cares about others. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and am actually sad that it is ending. I hope you teach other classes and would like to be in one of your classes again in the future. I wish you the best always and thank you for the gifts you've given me and others in this class. I don't see any reason to improve on perfection at this time and this class truly was “perfection”. Thank you again for all the feedback and guidance.
Outstanding!! You were very helpful whenever I emailed you or asked you questions and you always gave an immediate response. I liked the weekly discussions and I enjoyed a lot of the material covered in the class, like the section about health and the sections about careers. I don’t think that there is anything that I would want to improve about the class.
You have been an excellent instructor. You have provided us with information that will help us in all aspects of our life, from living healthy, having good relationships and achieving our goals. You have been thorough on your evaluations of our work. You are easily assessable by e-mail. You have stated what is expected of us in clear, easy to understand terms.
I really like the time and effort you put into this class. You have helped me out personally many times. You are wonderful and play a very active role in the teaching of this course. Not only did you become interactive in the group discussions, but you also commented on our assignments with positive commentary and even encouragement. Overall, job well done. I am glad to have had you as a counselor and professor. Thank you!
