Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center (RTTC)
The Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center (RTTC) addresses and eliminates
barriers or gaps that may inhibit the technology transfer at any point throughout the
transfer process. This center works with businesses to help them identify and analyze
their technological needs and assist them in the definition of technical problems and
issues which must be addressed before the actual search for an appropriate technology
begins.
Using a sophisticated computerized database system that stores the abstracts of
thousands of government research projects, its information specialists work with companies
to uncover new technology or research efforts underway that most closely match their
needs. In this manner, businesses are provided a means to scan the pool of potentially
appropriate research underway in the Federal government's scientific and technical
community and can pinpoint the required technologies important to their particular
commercial needs.
For example, the FLC Far West regional program working with the NASA Far West Regional
Technology Transfer Center (RTTC) is one way to work with the Federal laboratory system
The FLC Laboratory Locator Service and NASA's National Technology Transfer Center and
Regional Technology Transfer Centers work together to facilitate this activity through the
use of formal technical request.
The FLC Far West Region Directory was developed with the assistance of the NASA Far
West Regional Technology Transfer Center (RTTC). The cooperative partnership of the FLC
Far West Region and the RTTC provides the technology user a full service capability for
improving the transfer and domestic uses of Federal laboratory science and technology
resources. The Far West RTTC serves as an entry point for potential users of government
technologies, which may or may not lead to the FLC.
Additionally, the Far West RTTC helps companies complete the commercialization process.
For example, assistance in marketing, matching clients with business partners for joint
ventures, and referrals to local assistance programs. It also helps companies obtain
funding from sources such as venture capitalists, investment bankers, and commercial
banks.
