U.S. Product Data Association (USPDA)

Hundreds of digital-product data exchange projects are underway in government and industry. These projects are all intended to increase the ability of industry to exchange product information. However, there is a need to determine and adjust for interdependencies, which would identify overlapping or conflicting project areas, indicate critical path gaps where resources should be applied, and enhance project goals and direction to accelerate product data exchange capabilities.

The U.S. Product Data Association (USPDA) is managing a set of programs and supporting activities that leverage and coordinate activities for the Product Data Exchange by identifying and coordinating interdependent activities in five areas:

(1) Standards Development
(2) Testing
(3) Education and Training
(4) Software Development and Implementation Documentation
(5) Communications.

The objectives of these programs are to:

  • Promote the programs and projects which are currently contributing research, development, testing, implementation and educational activities that affect product data standards
  • Promote all organizations, programs, and projects whose work can impact product data standards
  • Promote the agencies, companies, and consortia in the programs and projects which contribute to product data exchange activities
  • Provide a central information resource for a central directory and library that contains information about objectives, schedules, milestones, plans, and status of the participating organizations
  • Serve as a repository for evolving documentation of policies, practices and the documentation of the standards
  • Provide information to existing and new participants to help define the complete work effort
  • Direct people and organizations to projects which address their interests and provide a clearing house for user requirements
  • Coordinate related initiatives and activities to establish and maintain relationships with other U.S. programs and projects which impact the development and implementation of product data exchange standards.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with international programs and projects which impact the development and implementation of product data exchange standards
