ART 100: Art Appreciation: Part II Cuyamaca CollegeInstructor: Diane Weintraub Journal Assignments: Part IIRemember: the Journal Assignments are due on test day for Part II and your points need to add up to 10 points. Mandatory assignment (2 points possible): Museum of Photographic Arts Exercise/Discussion. Choose from the following Journal Assignments to make up 8 points. Web site questions: Go to my web pages on the Cuyamaca web site. Go to Part II and choose one or two questions to answer. My web pages can be reached directly at: www.cuyamaca.net/diane.weintraub or by going to the Cuyamaca site and following this path: Click on Directory at the top band of the page then click on my name from the faculty list. If you choose one question/activity to do it is worth 1 point. If you choose 2 question/activity to do it is worth 2 points. Photo Essay: Using your camera or a disposable camera, look at architectural details as abstraction. In your Journal, include 5 photos that you like. (4 points possible) Natural object mixed media: Take a walk and pick up objects from nature that you find especially appealing. Make a mixed media collage (adhering them to a flat support, such as a piece of cardboard or illustration board) or as a free-standing sculpture. (4 points possible) Painting: So, you like to paint? Excellent! Do a small painting (under 16 by 20 inches) in the painting media of your choice. Any style or subject matter (as long as it’s PG rated) is OK from representational to abstract to non-objective. (4 points possible) Draw a still life: Compose a still life of at least three objects and make a drawing of it in the drawing media of your choice. (4 points possible) Collograph: Collographs are easy and very user-friendly for the artistically-challenged! Using Elmer’s or other white glue, glue down an assortment of objects of similar depth in a design that pleases you. Bring it to class on “printing day” and we’ll ink it up and make prints from it! (4 points possible) Acrylic Madness: Go to an art store and explore the various acrylic media. Which would you like to try and why? Which are not appealing to you and why? Write a short (200 word) essay. (3 points possible) The good die young? Read about Vincent Van Gogh on page 117. Would you like to have lunch with him? Why or why not? (1 point possible) Chicano Park Murals: Visit the murals in Chicano Park and research their history. Write a short paper of about 200 words on your impressions of the murals and their history. (4 points possible) Dream House: Do a plan drawing for the first floor of your “dream house”. (2 points possible) Include this page with your Journal and please check off the assignments you have chosen to do.
