125: Child Observation
Every student
will be responsible for a child observation of a child between the
ages of 6 months and 7 years. You must obtain written or verbal
permission from the child’s parents or legal guardians before
beginning with this observation. The child’s identity must be
protected during the course of this observation. If you observe a
child in the CDC, all guidelines of the center must be followed.
Observe a child between the ages of 6 months – 7 years. The
child can not be your own child or your grandchild.
Follow the complete guidelines discussed in class when
exploring
child's physical development, socio-emotional development
cognitive development.
You
must compare the child to the following theories of
a.) Jean Piaget
b.) Eric Erickson
c.) Lev Vygotsky
d.) Margaret Mahler OR Sigmund Freud OR Jerome Bruner
OR Lawrence Kohlberg OR Catherine Gilligane.)
e.) Other (you choice – you may select a theorist from your text NOT previously mentioned).
You must include five (5) theorists in the body of the observation. Six outside sources must be included in this observation. You
may
include sources from text books, reputable journals or the Internet. *The MLA
format must be followed. You may find the MLA
format in the bookstore, library or on the Internet.
Examples of previous observations are on “reserve” in the library
and in CDC classroom. Please do not include any “personal” pictures of the child.
