PURPOSE:  Presentation guidelines for ESL 104

Presentations

This semester you will participate in 4 presentations (not including the Midterm and Final). These presentations will be spread out so not all students will present the same day. Your first two presentations will be done individually, and the others in small groups. Here are some guidelines you should follow:

  • It is important that you present on the assigned day. Students that miss their assigned day will have a second opportunity but will sacrifice 50% of their score.
  • Students not presenting will evaluate those students who are. Those evaluations will be turned in for a listening grade.
  • Each presenter will begin by writing his/her name on board, with the title of his/her presentation.
  • Do not read your presentation.
  • Maintain eye contact with your audience (not your teacher).
  • Use appropriate visual.

Presentation 1 (Individual presentation): Who am I

  • Your assignment is to prepare a 1-2 minute oral presentation to describe yourself to the class.

Presentation 2 (Individual presentation): Something of interest to me

  • Presentations must be exactly 2 minutes in length (practice and time your presentation). If you are finished too early you will have empty time. If you are not finished in time, you will be cut off.
  • Use appropriate visual

Presentation 3 (with a partner): Technology

  • Students will work with a partner to prepare a 5-10 minute presentation on technology and how it affects us (good or bad). Consider the following possibilities:
    ·         Television
    ·         Computers
    ·         Computer games
    ·         Cell phones or Instant Messaging
    ·         Fax machines, scanners
    ·         Digital cameras
    ·         Technology in general

  • Students should work together outside of class to practice. Points given for teamwork.
  • Use appropriate visuals

Presentation 4 (with a partner): Teach us to make something

  • Students will work with a partner to prepare a 5-10 minute presentation that will teach us to do something. This might entail making a favorite food, or how to surf, use a yo-yo or explain sudoku or how to make an origami figure.
  • Students should work together outside of class to practice. Points given for teamwork.
  • Appropriate visuals and simple, clear instructions are essential
