Gifted Hands: A Dr. Benjamin Carson Unit

This research guide below provide activities and information for a unit study based on the book Gifted Hands: A Ben Carson Story.
 Ben Carson, MD, is one of the best neurosurgeons in the world. This is the story of his inspiring odyssey from his childhood in inner-city Detroit to his position as director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33. Carson is a role model for anyone who attempts the seemingly impossible as he takes you into the operating room where he has saved countless lives.


Library Research Questions questions:

1. Carson chose the career of neurosurgeon. What does it take to become a neurosurgeon? Use the website called Occupational Outlook" and type in neurosurgeon. You will find a generic website with general information on physicians. Answer these questions:

What is the nature of work of a neurosurgeon (five sentences)?
What are the education requirements of a neurosurgeon (five sentences)?
What are the working conditions of a neurosurgon (five sentences)?

2. Carson separated the Binder Twins who were joined at the back of the head.  Research the binder Twins. Where are they now?
