Purpose: The purpose of this library research guide is to:

  •  stimulate students in making sense of the world around them
  • grant students practice in the research process by having them use several mediums to conduct the research,
  • evaluate the relevance of each source, and apply the gathered evidence to their chosen argument
  • encourage students to continue using the MLA standards for formatting and citations.

STEP 1: Your Topic + Your "Angle" = Your Thesis

  • Example #1: I am working on the effects of global warming on ocean fish  because I want to find out how the impact of global warming influences our understanding of pollution and the greenhouse effect, in order to help my classmates understand how we can reduce our impact on the environment. Example 2: I want to find information on college students and cigarette smoking so I can help my classmates  understand how smoking is harmful to their health.

STEP 2: Choose a database and do a keyword/subject search Database.jpg
