Research paper assignment

Purpose:  This assignment has been designed to help you learn basic skills for writing a research paper.  You’ll be required to use the library, choose and narrow a topic, present research material in the paper, and write a Works Cited page. 

Assignment: You’re a journalist! Now, pair up with a partner and investigate a topic that interests both of you (one that you want to learn more about). Once you and your partner have decided on your paragraph topic, you two must then determine the following: which side of the issue (problem) each person will examine, who will be responsible for the introductory paragraph, who will be responsible for the closing paragraph, how and when you will communicate, and…etc. The next step is to mutually research your topic. Once you have gained a solid understanding of the issue, write a 300 word count paragraph reporting the effects of the issue to your readers. Please carefully consider what your readers already know about the topic and try to interest them in an issue at hand. Your goal is to examine the issue in an unbiased way, which means that you will take care not to express your position on the issue (should you have one)—so, be an objective writer!  Remember you are only to report your findings.
