English as a Second language classes are designed to improve English reading, writing, grammar, listening and speaking skills. Learning English will help students attain employment or pursue degree and certificate programs that use English as the language of instruction.
The ESL program is divided into 4 levels.
Level 1 - Basic college ESL Focusing on reading short passages; writing sentences; connecting them into basic paragraphs; and having discussions using the present, past, and and future verb tenses.
ESL 96 - English as a Second Language I
ESL 97 - Listening and Speaking I ESL 98 - Reading and Vocabulary I
ESL 99A - ESL for the Workplace I
Level 2 - Intermediate college ESL Focusing on reading short academic passages; writing complete paragraphs; and discussing topics using the simple, progressive, and present perfect verb tenses.
ESL 100 - English as a Second Language II
ESL 101 - Listening and Speaking II
ESL 102 - Reading and Vocabulary II
ESL 99A - ESL for the Workplace I or ESL 99B - ESL for the Workplace II
Level 3 - High-intermediate college ESL Focusing on reading more complex academic passages; connecting paragraphs into short essays; note taking and study skills; and orally presenting work in all verb tenses.
ESL103 - English as a Second Language III
ESL 104 - Listening and Speaking III
ESL 105 - Reading and Vocabulary III
ESL 99B - ESL for the Workplace II
Level 4 - Advanced college ESL Focusing on reading college level texts; writing more complex essays; increasing note taking and study skills; and orally presenting work in all verb tenses.
ESL106 - English as a Second Language IV
Eng 98R - Basic reading
Level 5 - Upon completion of the ESL program, you will move into regular English classes.
