Additional Scholarships Available to Students in the OH Program

Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Logo The Home Depot has more than tripled a $300,000 scholarship fund it first established in 2009, providing $1 million in funding for 2010 to support students attending professional building and construction trade schools. And this year’s program will not only support individual students, but also the schools they attend. Specifically, $1,000 scholarships will be available to 500 trade school students to help them offset the cost of tuition, books and tools for their chosen trade. The schools of the scholarship recipients will receive additional funds for classrooms tools from The Home Depot Foundation through matching gifts of $1,000 for each scholarship awarded to one or more of their students. Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Logo In recognition of the need to encourage creative young talent to pursue careers in floriculture, the Joseph Shinoda Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established. A non-profit organization, its sole purpose is to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students who have chosen to prepare for careers in the flower industry. Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Logo Part of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America's mission is to make sure the future of the profession remains as bright tomorrow as it is today. To ensure this, The Environmental Institute for Golf administers a number of different scholarships for students pursuing careers in the golf course industry, future turfgrass researchers and educators, children and grandchildren of GCSAA members, and foreign students studying in the United States. Perennial Plant Association Logo The Perennial Plant Association is proud to offer five scholarships to college students studying horticulture or a related subject area. Students enrolled in two or four year programs are eligible to apply. Each scholarship recipient will receive $1000 and complimentary registration for all lectures and tours at the 2010 Perennial Plant Symposium in Portland, Oregon, July 18-24. Recipients will also receive complimentary lodging during the symposium. Scholarship recipients are welcomed and encouraged to attend the entire symposium. Recipients must attend July 21 to 23 to be eligible for the $1000 scholarship. Applicants should consider this requirement before applying. The completed application should be mailed to the PPA office by March 1, 2010.

AWIS Logo Each year the San Diego County Farm Bureau Scholarship Committee selects several students who are enrolled or entering college as scholarship recipients. Students entering or attending a two-year or four-year college or university are eligible. Applicants must be pursuing a course of study in agriculture or a closely related field, and they must have a permanent residence in San Diego County. Membership in the Farm Bureau is not required.  AApplication deadline: April 12, 2010
