Babysitter Training
This course, offered in conjunction with American Red Cross, provides individuals with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This fun, interactive course teaches first aid and safety skills to prevent and respond to emergencies. As a Red Cross trained babysitter, youth gain confidence and valuable employment skills to impress parents. Bring a sack lunch and a 12-14" baby doll for diapering practice.

Beginning Guitar for Teens

Junior Theatre

Attention up and coming young actors and actresses. Have you dreamt about being in MOVIES, COMMERCIALS, and LIVE THEATRE PRODUCTIONS? Your opportunity is here! This workshop will teach you the skills and techniques to start you on a path into the exciting world of acting and live theatre. We will cover beginning acting skills, voice and movement, stage terminology, history of theatre, and much, much more. Junior Hip-Hop

Learn to move to different hip-hop styles in this class designed for young students. This upbeat and rhythmic class will include warm-ups, stretches, turns, choreography, and dance combinations to hip-hop and lyrical music. Students should wear loose fitting athletic clothes, no black soled shoes. For students grades 6th-8th.

The Earth is a Mystery - Dig It
Embark on an exciting adventure into the worlds of geology, paleontology, archaeology, and anthropology as you work to solve the mysteries of the earth. The Heritage of the Americas Museum will be your classroom where you will conduct hands-on projects that include prospecting for minerals, unearthing artifacts, analyzing fossils, and discovering the secrets of mysterious civilizations. Bring drinking water, Ages 10-14.

Survivor: Pioneer Skills in the Computer World
The Heritage of the Americas Museum is the backdrop to see and understand survival skills developed all over the world. In this course, you will build a model shelter, make fire by friction, rig and lift a weight using a rope and pulleys. You will follow an orienteering course using a compass and learn to use a lever and fulcrum, saw with a 2-person cross-cut saw and use a wooden yoke to carry a burden. You will hear campfire stories and learn about the Oregon Trail. This course will end with a hobo cookout. Bring drinking water and a hat. Ages 10-14.

Art Stars

Explore your artistic talents! Introduction lessons will cover various art techniques using materials including drawing tools and painting with watercolor and acrylics. Artifacts and art pieces of the Heritage of the Americas Museum readily provide inspiring samples of cultural art, designs, patterns, and more. Art appreciation will include a look at the Art Masters as a guide to creating your own acrylic masterpiece. Bring drinking water. Ages 10-14.

You, the Artist
What's your style, abstract, detailed and realistic, or just make an impression? Imagination is your key as you enter the fun world of artistic creativity. Drawing techniques will be the focus as you learn and practice skills using composition, shading, perspective, and more. Materials will include pencil, charcoal, ink pen, watercolor pencil, and pastels. Choose your subject of interest - nature, people, objects, animals, or structures in the enriching environment of the Heritage of the Americas Museum. Bring drinking water. Ages 10-14

Flower Power

What exactly is a flower, and why are flowers so beautiful? Experience the lovely colors, cents, and textures of flowers as you create a piece of artwork to display at home. Story time and a tasty treat round out this class for budding gardeners and their adult chaperones. For children ages 4 and up with an adult. Older children enthusiastic about this topic are welcome.

This Class is for the Birds!

Come to the Garden and create a rustic and natural bird feeder! Get creative with various recipes only a bird would enjoy. We will also make a human snack that imitates the dining preferences of our feathered friends. For children ages 4 and up with an accompanying adult. Older children enthusiastic about birds are also welcome!
