OSHA 40 HOUR - HAZWOPER
(NCVE 1003)

This 40 hour course provides Federal and State certification for those who work with hazardous waste for management, operations, emergency response team or trainers, and site clean up. This course satisfies the requirements for generalized employee training under the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.120 and State of California Regulation 5192 Title 8. A certificate and wallet card will be issued upon completion of the class.

OSHA 8-HOUR REFRESHER FEDERAL & CAL/OSHA STANDARDS
(NCVE 1029)
This 8-hour Hazardous Waste Operator and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Refresher course is designed to maintain the 40-Hour or 24-Hour OSHA Annual Certificate required for employees in the public or private sector, large or small businesses, who work with hazardous waste in any phase from management operations to on-site clean-up. This course includes lectures, table top exercises, and hands-on activities. A certificate will be issued upon completion of the class.

Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Regulations
(NCVE 1051)
This course covers the Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) governing the transportation of hazardous substances.  This course fulfills the DOT 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Transportation awareness training required by DOT and includes: using a hazardous materials table, preparing shipping papers, marking, labeling and placard requirements, security awareness and site policies, handling emergencies and notification and identification and communication of hazards of transportation.

Food Handler Training Course

This course is designed for individuals who are, or will be, working in a food or service industry job which requires food handler certification. The San Diego County Department of Health has approved this three-hour course. A certificate is valid for three years and will be issued to each participant upon completion of this course.

Career Exploration (NCVE 1089)
Personality and interest-based assessment is used to help students gain career insight  and set educational goals. Learn  to matriculate from this noncredit course to a credit program.You will be given insights into your interests and personality type by taking Choices and Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) career assessments. Discover how you can use your assessment to select a career that matches your interests and personality.

Looking for a job in this challenging economy? Join us for a two day workshop that will provide relevant tools for landing a job in an economic downturn. Students will discover today's in-demand careers and will take a career assessment to learn which jobs suit their unique personality and skill sets. The workshop will also cover resume writing and interviewing skills, tips for a successful job search, and strategies for staying positive throughout the journey.
A job preparedness program for individuals entering today's competitive employment market. Topics include employee readiness, applications, interviews, dress codes, communication skills, budgeting, stress and time management, self esteem and career ladders.

This class will help students learn to organize their thoughts, communicate with credibility, and keep their composure when speaking in public.
Delivering Powerful Presentations (NCVE 1130)
This course is designed for the presenter who is already a comfortable public speaker looking for a competitive edge.
The Right Attitude (NCVE 1020)
This course is designed to help students explore the impact attitude has on customer service, organizational image, team effectiveness, and personal productivity. Students will examine verbal and non verbal methods of communicating attitude and will discuss techniques for adjusting a negative attitude.
Dealing with Difficult People (NCVE 1121)
This course is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to work more effectively with co-workers and customers who exhibit a variety of work style behaviors. Students will identify their personal work style and will learn strategies and techniques for modifying their style to resolve conflict situations. Common sources of workplace conflict are explored and five conflict handling styles are identified along with the appropriate time to use each style.

Learning Theories and Learning Styles
This course will provide an overview of learning theories relevant to career and technical education that emphasizes the importance of teaching not only technical skills but higher order thinking, problem solving, and collaborative skills to prepare workers entry into and advancement in the workplace. Learning styles will be defined and the importance of understanding the difference among learning styles to enhance student learning. Career and technical education instructors will gain knowledge of how to incorporate constructivist/ contextual learning theory and accommodate various learning styles when designing their curriculum.

This course will provide faculty with the teaching tools needed to engage students in learning and increase student mastery of subject matter. Six teaching methods will be covered: project-based learning , work-based learning, direct instruction, cooperative learning, and service learning. Critical Elements of Course Structure
This course will provide an overview of how to create a syllabus, basic elements of course structure, including student learning outcomes (SLOs), and their application. Practical exercises in developing syllabi and SLOs will be presented.
