Professional Development: Funds

Availability of Funds

Great News!
The State has provided some money to fund professional development activities during 2008-2009 for faculty, classified employees, and administrators.  After a great deal of discussion, the Professional Development Committee has defined some parameters to guide us as we consider applications for this funding.

Should you desire funding for a professional development activity (training session, conference attendance, colloquium travel, etc.), you may apply to the committee for funding support.  In an effort to be fair to all, given a limited budget, the following guidelines have been established:

Full time employees: Up to $500/request/fiscal year
Part time employees: Up to $250/request/fiscal year

  • In order to apply for these funds, please submit to your dean/supervisor a completed Request for Attendance at Off-Campus Activity form (see link below) along with a copy of the conference or training schedule or some other formal notification of the event.
  • This paperwork must be submitted to your dean/supervisor at least 3 weeks prior to the event in order to assure sufficient time to go through the approval process.
  • When you submit the form, be sure to check "yes" for the question that asks, “Is this a Staff Development Activity?”
  • Once your dean/supervisor has approved the activity, the packet will be sent forward to the Staff Development Committee for review.
  • Retroactive requests will NOT be considered
Funding is not guaranteed, therefore, we recommend that you wait for a notice of approval before you proceed with personal financial commitment.

Other Possible Funding Sources.

There are other sources that may help defray some or all costs. For Example, mileage to and from a conference, is reimbursable through the Cuyamaca College Business Office, and technology related conferences may be funded through TTIP or Title III (contact Connie Elder )
