A Tour of the Steinway Piano Factory

In November 2007, piano instructor Martha Heminger and Performing Arts Chairperson Pat Setzer traveled to New York City to tour the Steinway piano factory and select two grand pianos for the Communication Arts building. Come to a PowerPoint slide show to see the handcrafted manufacturing process for these peerless musical instruments!

This is an orientation to Cuyamaca College’s student characteristics, services and resources for faculty and students, and faculty processes and procedures. We will provide a “Survival Kit” including College Catalog, Class Schedule, campus map, Student Code of Conduct, important phone numbers and contact people, and more. Seasoned instructors will share their experiences and ideas about some of the do’s and don’ts and practical strategies for surviving long evening and particularly Saturday sessions. Then we will finish up with some “Nuts and Bolts” before touring the campus to locate essentials like the mailroom and duplicating. Refreshments will be served.

eff has been using Blackboard for more than one year to supplement his Auto 120 course. He will lead a workshop designed to assist automotive instructors in developing an understanding of the features of Blackboard and discovering ways to utilize this program in their courses.

Online Learning and Teaching Forum

Target audience: Current and prospective online instructors. The Online Learning and Teaching Committee is developing guidelines for qualification of online instructors. Online instruction currently spans the gamut from basic correspondence courses with little or no instructor involvement to highly engaging, student-centered, learning environments. The goal of the forum is to engage participants in a dialogue of what works and doesn’t work in online education, what qualifications should an instructor have before they are assigned to teach online and a review of the College’s Online Learning and Teaching Standards of Good Practice.
