Stephen P. Weinert - Bio

I was born in the small town of Williston, Vermont.  I grew up in the country and spent my childhood fishing, mountain biking, and skiing.  I started competing in track and field my sophomore year in high school throwing the shot-put and the discus.

In 1988, I came to San Diego to attend SDSU.  I  competed on the track team earning MVP and national ranking in discus and hammer.

I graduated from SDSU with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Biology in 1993.  I entered the master's program with a teaching assignment that fall and earned a MA in Experimental Psychology in January 1997. My primary research interests are human performance and developmental biology.

In the summer of 1994, I met my wife Jenna B. Warner working as counselor at  a summer sports camp for children.  I knew after our first date that we would be married (she was not as sure as I was).  We were married on July 25, 1998.  Jenna is a first grade teacher in the Alpine Union School District and an avid runner. We have been married for 12 years and I love her more than the day we got married.

I  received a California High School Teaching Credential from Chapman University in the spring of 1998 in Biology and General Science.  I became a Biology / Earth Science  teacher at Ramona High School that fall and became a tenured faculty in the fall of 2000.

I had been teaching part-time at Cuyamaca College since 1995 and dreamed of teaching here full-time.  In the spring of 2001, I  applied to Cuyamaca College for a full-time psychology position.  I became a full time faculty member in fall of 2001.  I earned tenure in the fall of 2006.

Our first child was born on April 5, 2003.  Ella Grace Weinert has changed the world as we know it. Baby number 2 ( we call him Caleb Stephen Weinert) was born on July 18, 2006.

Two kids does change the amount of things that you can do in a day.

I currently am trying to become a runner (but failing at it).  I love riding and fixing my bicycles.  I really like mountain biking on the full suspension bike, as well as the rigid single speed 29er with drop bars.  I have a fixed gear track bike, which I have ridden in time trials, a triathlon  and in the SD Velodrome.  I am not going to win anything, but I love riding and competing.  Right now I am working to see how far I can ride in 1 hour.  (20.48 miles current best).

I love spending time with my family, playing at the beach, fishing at the lake, or just playing in the yard.  It does not matter where we are,  time with them is worth it.
