President’s Message:

A little over a year ago, a group of dedicated individuals from various departments of the college came together to develop the vision and framework for a Title III grant proposal. This would be the college’s third  attempt at submitting a grant proposal to the U.S. Department of Education. Well, the vision, talent, and hard work of the devoted team truly paid off when we were notified that  Cuyamaca College had a almost perfect score of 97.67 on its grant application and would be awarded $1,750,000 over the next five years!!

Our Title III project focuses on faculty training, technology integration and curriculum development that will address retention and student success among young, first-year students Utilization of technology as a tool will increase student access, improve learning environments and enhance student services. Faculty and staff will be able to address the needs of high-risk students with training and use new technologies to better reach and engage them. The curriculum development component will  ensure a smooth transition from one academic course level to the next.

I am pleased at this time to welcome our Title III Activity Coordinator, Maria Mendoza-Bautista, who joined Cuyamaca College in spring 2004. In addition, I welcome Greg Gomez to his new role of Title III Online Counselor and Retention Specialist.

I extend the warmest of thanks to those who had the vision and perseverance that led to this Title III award – our Title III Planning Task Force: Teresa McNeil, (Grant Writer), Cristina Chiriboga, Vangie Meneses, Chuck Charter, Pat Setzer, Barbara Takahashi, Jan Ford, Kay Hartig, Darlene Cole, Rik Barnes, Pei Hua Chou, Henry Eimstad, Lilia Pulido, Jeri Resto, Carmen Solom, and Al Taccone. THANK YOU!!

Sincerely,

Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D.
