Lloyd Edwards
Sprints Coach

Coach Edwards is a sprint and relays coach at Cuyamaca College. He comes to
the Coyotes after a successful run as the head coach at Mount Miguel High
School.
Lloyd Edwards was a member of Harbor College's 1964 "undefeated, untied, and
unwanted" Hall of Fame football team. A bruising 6'3" 215 pound
fullback, he led the 1965 team to a Lions Bowl victory with a 7.1 yard
per carry average. Recruited by SDSU assistant coach John Madden, Lloyd
chose to join Don Coryell's powerhouse Aztecs. Edwards gained 442 yards as a
junior and was named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association's
first team. As a senior, his 809 rushing yards (4.5 yard average) led the
Aztecs to a 9-0-1 team record and was named to the small college
All-American team, along with teammate Fred Dryer.
Coach Edwards was drafted by the NFL's Oakland Raiders head coach John
Madden in the 3rd round. He spent a majority of his time on the team as a
special team's player and tight end before injuries prematurely ended his
career.
Edwards was prepared for the future. He states that his college degree was
"the best part of playing football and I appreciate the people in my life
that were there to guide me", such as his Harbor College coaches Rhea and
Gordon Wells.
Coach Edwards retired in 1996 after a 28-year career with the Department of
Corrections as a parole agent and began coaching. He was an assistant with
the Grossmont College football team. Spent several successful years as
the Mount Miguel High School Head Coach, and then decided to join the staff
at Cuyamaca College.
Under his guidance, Cuyamaca College's sprints and relays have continually
improved and become one the track and field teams stronger event areas.
