COYOTES GET A HOME OPENER WIN!

Jamaisa Allen played big. 20 points big in the first half. Adding another 13 points in the second half, she led Cuyamaca to a 75-71 victory against Cerro Coso. The team had an early lead and went into half time up by one. The visiting Cerro Coso went on a rally and gained at 9 point lead. The Coyotes answered back with a full court press and defensive intensity to go on a 10-0 scoring run. Down by 2 with two minutes left, the Coyotes scores the last 6 points to grab the win.

"It was nice to get an early victory, but we still have lots of work to do." Said Coach Sulpizio. Our defensive intensity needs to start at tip-off. We can't get used to being down by 8 or 9 points. The teams coming up won't let us climb back from a deficit."

Jamaisa Allen had 30 points. Ashley Baker added 12. Josephine Zomayah and Crisela Banks added 8 points.

NEWS-- Road opener a

challenge for the Coyotes.

Youth and inexperience filled up the weekend and the Coyotes lost their two opening games to East LA and El Camino. East LA played a man defense, putting pressure on the wings, while El Camino seemed to shoot well from all areas of the court. At times, the Cuyamaca players showed their frustration and let fatigue get to them. Tiffany Tooson fouled out of game one, and Jo Zomayah and Crisela Banks fouled out of game two.

Despite the double losses, Coach Sulpizio believes the team is on the right track. "One night Crisela (Banks) had 16 points, the next night Jamaisa (Allen) had 22. Both nights Ashley Baker dominated the boards. If we put that offense in the same game and eliminate some of the careless errors, we're right there with both of those teams," Sulpizio said. The Coyotes outscored El Camino in the second half: 30-25, and doubled their scoring output from the first half--they ended the half with 13 points.

Other important factors included the teams best defender, Tiffany Tooson playing only 8 minutes in game two due to a strained pectorais. Crisela Banks, due to foul trouble, saw less than 10 minutes of game time. "Those things hurt." Sulpizio commented. "But this team has to figure out ways to stay in the game and on the court. We're all learning. That is what this time of the year is for."

Jamaisa Allen continues to

dominate and lead a young

Coyote team...

WIth 22 points, Allen put on a show in the second half against El Camino. Living up to her 48% 3 point shooting record that lead the PCC in 2007, Allen proved she is ready to compete in her sophomore season.

She played all 40 minutes of the game, leading the team at the point guard position.

She followed that up with a 33 point game to lead the Coyotes to their first win against Cerro Coso. 20 of Allen's points came in the first half. Allen had to miss the first ten minutes of the second half due to an upset stomach, but ended the game with a strong presence.
